Why didn't I do an exercise intervention for myself as an adult, when I knew I needed exercise, is a personal haunt. I dieted for forty years but never exercised. It wasn't that I didn't know; it was merely that I didn't want to, and I could always find an excuse, or procrastinate. It was sheer laziness, and endless supply of excuses: I'm too tired, it's cold, I have too much to do.... Some of my excuses were real, medical, professionally sanctioned excuses: I have two ruptured disks in my lumbar spine. Both of my shoulders require rotator cuff surgery and one for a torn ligament, and both have fluid on the joint. One ankle was broken and is not 100%. I had carpel tunnel in both hands; one was operated on, but suffered nerve damage, so the other was never treated. I could go on, but why belabor the issue; the point is, all of those conditions still exist today, and I exercise. |
